Night sweats and acne? Blame your pillowcase

Everybody knows the best way to prevent zits is good hygiene. But what you might not think about is how your pillowcase contributes to the health of your skin. sleeping couple (Getty Images)

Seriously, when was the last time you changed your pillowcase? Probably when you changed the sheets, maybe a week ago (or more if you’re like a lot of people).

All night while you sleep you’re sloughing off cells on that pillowcase and sheets. The bacteria from the top layer of your skin can build up on your bedding and increase your likelihood of breakouts.

While those high thread count sheets seem pretty comfy, they come with a down side. They restrict oxygen to your skin. In turn, that can cause more oil production, pore swelling and night sweats.

If you’re prone to acne, you may want to change your pillowcases and sheets two or three times a week. If your skin is dry or normal, a once-a-week washing works.  pic2
